Key Takeaway
Dr. Yung-Hui Li announced that Foxconn has developed a local AI model, FoxBrain, which demonstrates strong reasoning capabilities through optimized training methods. Although it still lags behind DeepSeek’s distillation model, FoxBrain is nearing “world-leading standards.” The development involved extensive data processes and innovative techniques like Adaptive Reasoning Reflection. Initially intended for internal use, Foxconn aims to collaborate with tech partners to broaden FoxBrain’s applications in manufacturing and supply chain management. The company plans to showcase FoxBrain at the Nvidia GTC 2025 conference on March 20, focusing on open-source AI advancements.
“By employing carefully crafted training methods and optimizing resources, we have successfully developed a local AI model with robust reasoning capabilities,” states Dr. Yung-Hui Li.
Foxconn Advances Towards Open-Source AI Contributions
Foxconn acknowledges that, despite a performance gap compared to DeepSeek’s distillation model—another AI system aimed at efficient knowledge transfer—FoxBrain’s performance is nearing what it describes as “world-leading standards.”
The development process included data collection, cleaning, and augmentation, followed by ongoing pre-training, supervised fine-tuning, reinforcement learning from AI feedback (RLAIF), and a method that Foxconn refers to as “Adaptive Reasoning Reflection.”
Initially designed for internal applications at Foxconn, the company intends to partner with technology collaborators to broaden FoxBrain’s applications and advance AI in manufacturing, supply chain management, and decision-making processes.
Foxconn also plans to showcase FoxBrain’s results at the Nvidia GTC 2025 conference during a session titled ‘From Open Source to Frontier AI: Build, Customise and Extend Foundation Models,’ scheduled for March 20.
