Kamran Ikram, Accenture’s Security lead in the UK & Ireland, highlights the increasing threat of AI-driven social engineering in cyber-attacks, emphasizing that no organization is immune. Cyber criminals exploit social media to create deceptive messages, necessitating quicker judgment from employees. While the workforce feels cyber confident, a significant skills gap exists, particularly between genders. Accenture’s 2025 Cybersecurity Resilience Report categorizes organizations into three zones: reinvention-ready (10%), progressing (27%), and exposed (63%). Those in the reinvention-ready zone are 69% less likely to experience cyberattacks compared to those in the exposed zone, underscoring the importance of cybersecurity maturity.
Kamran Ikram, Accenture’s Security lead for the UK & Ireland, states: “Recent cyber-attacks demonstrate that no organisation is immune, and these findings highlight an increasing threat from AI-driven social engineering, where attackers exploit trust rather than technical vulnerabilities.
“With cyber criminals leveraging information from social media to mislead individuals with convincing messages or calls, employees must quickly discern what is genuine and what is not.
“The workforce exhibits a sense of cyber confidence – although this confidence varies between men and women, there is a significant skills and training gap across the board.
“Being overconfident yet undertrained poses a serious risk.”
